Scope and Contents

The Space Exploration News Collection features several newspapers and magazines relating to the space race and space exploration. Included in the collection are front page news stories relating to the Apollo 11 moon landing, John Glenn's history making orbit around the Earth on Friendship 7, and other monumental moments in the history of space exploration.

The original periodicals will be retained for historical value and use in displays and exhibits. The collection consists of three newspapers and one magazine.

Since the beginning of the space race, the news and media have been reporting on the achievement and setbacks in space exploration.

The collection is arrange by space programs in chronological order.

Custodial History

Transferred to Purdue University Archives and Special Collections, Purdue University Libraries by Aeronautics Development director, Rita Baines on October 8, 2012. Later additions were transfered by the Purdue Physics Library, Purdue University News Service and other Purdue schools and departments.

Acquisition Information

Transferred from the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics by B.H. Schneider, the Physics Library, Purdue University News Service, Purdue University Relations and other Purdue schools and departments.

Processing Information

All materials have been housed in acid-free folders and acid-free boxes.
