The folder also contains a letter written by M. G. Mellon to Mrs. Eleanor Boyk, which describes his fond memories of Sol Boyk and how he stood out as an exemplary graduate student in the Chemistry Department at Purdue University.

The collection includes the dissertation "Cohesion, Adhesion, Tensile Strength, Tensile Energy, Negative Surface Energy, Interfacial Tension, and Molecular Attraction," submitted to the faculty of the Ogden Graduate School of Science in candidacy for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Department of Chemistry, The University of Chicago, by Ying Chang Cheng. There are two copies.
